Model Name - ASUS Zenfone 9 256GB/16GB RAM/FW#34.0304.2004.145/Not Rooted
My speech recognition has been getting worse and worse over the past few months, until it barely worked at all. This was limited to anything that uses Google Speech Recognition & Synthesis, GBoard, Google Keep, Google Assistant, etc.
If I open any sound recorder app, the microphone works perfectly, I can record my own voice and hear it back clear as day. I also used Phone Doctor Plus app to verify that BOTH MICS are WORKING.
The most defining issue was when I used Google Keep to record a "Voice Recording," which normally would record your voice, and then record as text, but also save the recording. When I did that, it had difficulty understanding the words, and the recording sounded garbled. You could barely hear my voice, and there was a lot of noise in the background, as if the microphone gain was turned way down.
I tried factory resetting my phone and did not restore any of the apps. Now it doesn't even try to record speech, it says that the microphone was not activated. The sound recorder app is still recording flawlessly.
This thread indicates it may be a google-related problem, but I've seen other ASUS zenfone users complaining about this

I am having thr exact same issue. Microphone works fine in the sound recorder app and to trigger google via okay google voice command. It then works to ask google something. Doesn't work for voice to text, I've tried different versions of android system webview a long with synthetis and I've tried disabling google speech. Nothing works, it's been like this for about 6 months. If it isn't fixed soon unfortunately I'll have to get a different phone as this function is vital to me.
All voice works on my galaxy s24 (work phone) so it isn't a google issue. It is an asus issue.
